I used the 600 grit stone to clean up the bevel on my bush craft knife in about 100 strokes in each section of the knife. Then another 50 strokes in each spot with the 1000 grit stone made it almost able to cut my arm hair. But then I used a 50 strokes on a lansky ceramic sharpener to finish off the edge. I'm not really good at sharpening, but the Roeam gave me the ability to get the knife bevel angles just right and to do so quickly. The overall frame of the Roeam was very easy to set up and use. It may not be the only sharpening tool you need, but the speed it gave me was much appreciated. I'm glad that I bought it. It does work better on larger knifes though. Oh, and it works better if you only apply pressure when moving the stone in same direction all the time. I found that if apply pressure both up and down, it didn't sharpen as quickly -- maybe it grinds the metal the wrong way. The instructions didn't give much advice in this area. But there's a video online explaining the techniques.
