Q

I know it’s a matter of opinion but where would the best place for this pedal in the signal chain? Along with delay, distortion, tremolo, etc.

A
  • I would put it in the front/beginning of your chain. It is, essentially a distortion. It sounds good but the build quality is not that good so be gentle or buy 2. One as a back up.

Q

Is it a pedal or amplifier? Can it drive a cab?

A
  • It is a pedal and it cannot drive a cab, I returned mine as it sounded absolutely nothing like a Vox in my opinion

Q

Has anyone had a problem recording with these pedals? Reaper does not seem to recognize them.

A
  • Haven't tried recording with it. Sorry. Other than that I love it. Great sound.

Q

How reliable are these things? Do they last?

A
  • They seem very solid. Jacks are very firm, switch is sturdy, knobs have a nice feel with slight resistance. Nothing loose or flimsy feeling. I have the AC Tone and the American Sound, but I use them in a home studio, so they aren't on the road getting stomped on every night. I do think the sound and build quality are amazing for the price. If it breaks... you could buy 5 of these for the price of a pedal from a US company. These are my opinions, I'd still ask someone who's abused them if you plan to. see less

Q

What are the different "Voice" settings on this sim pedal?

A
  • It provides a huge pallet of sounds: from great cleans into breakup tones. It is very flexible and just by itself>mixer provides a sufficient and low-noise sound.

It's a little noisy, lots of hiss, but it does a great job for the money.

I am a total gear nerd and am obsessed with a true tube amp sound for live playing and recording sessions. That said, I was blown away by these little boxes. For smaller venues that aren't trained or equipped to properly mic and mix a guitar amp these things are a Godsend. They sound surprisingly true to the amp sound and respond very much like a true tube amp. These are a solid option for players who are home recording, playing in churches or other small venues, someone playing on a budget. Check them out.

I have been carrying around a Vox AC30CCH and 2-12" cabinet (with Celestion Golds) for many years, but it's getting harder to justify as I age, and the stages get smaller. This pedal produces a more than satisfactory simulation of a Vox AC30, better than many modeling amps, pedals, and software. Miles above the results of Amplitube 2, a product I attempted to use live a few years back. I own both the JF-13 and it's 'mentor' the Tech 21 Liverpool, and while I think the Liverpool sounds a bit more authentic, it's probably not enough for the average audience member -- or a lot of band members -- to notice. The case is rugged, and the paint job and labeling looks good. It doesn't have a cab/tone switch for use with a combo amp, so it might require some EQ in that situation. There are a couple of things I don't like: - The build quality is about what would be expected out of an under-$50 (street) pedal. I have no qualms about using it in the practice room, but I don't think I would trust it on a regular gigging basis. - The pedal picks up AC noise through my Ric 620 when I stand near the pedal, much more so than with either the real AC30 or the Tech 21. (When I move 5-6 feet away, it's gone.) - The tone controls don't emulate the AC30 perfectly. When I set my Top Boost channel Treble/Bass to 12:00, I get a different sound than the same positions on the AC Tone. That said, it is possible to dial in the same sound -- it's just not where one would expect. - Again, the Drive settings of the AC Tone don't match those on my AC30, and need to be tweaked. - Finding the 'sweet spot' on the Voice control is more difficult than on the Tech 21. All that said, it's hard to be too critical of this box, given the price! Just be aware of the limitations.

Very nice. Plugged straight into my board ..add a little reverb and Walla.... great sound. You do need to play with the settings to get the sweet tones. Also note responds differently with each guitar. Great pedal . Note i own the American,AC,& Brit...all good stuff.. Thanks, JB

This pedal is a clone of the Tech 21 Liverpool at a fraction of the price and it's really great. If you can't find a tone you like then I don't know what to say. One other thing, some people have written that this pedal doesn't work good on the front end of an amp like a stomp box. This simple isn't true as I'm using it in front of my Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue and it sounds great!

This one is outstanding. I've been using software ampsims for years, and this little box sounds 'better' or 'more realistic' than any softsim i've tried. ymmv.

For $30, this is an AWESOME investment. I've had it for about 9 months and I use it constantly in a 600-seat auditorium for my church. It rocks. It's more reliable than my '69 fender tube amp, and I can pull the right tones out of it for my Gibson Les Paul. Plus it's super fast to just plug into a DI and play, rather than having to mic and tweak and re-mic and re-tweak. Gives a nice clarity to humbuckers, and a good punch to P90s. I tried the  Joyo American  and I just couldn't get it to sound good. This one took about 10 minutes to dial in. I use the  StageTrix Setting Saver  to save my settings on there and it works like a charm. It's surprisingly light, too. grab one of these, you won't be disappointed.

Lived up to all the reviews. I run it into the effects loop of my Marshall and for Vox tunes it sounds freakin' awesome. Very versatile as far as sounds and settings. Doesn't alter my tone when switched off. Arrived fast and packed well. Highly recommend for anyone looking for the full range of Vox amp sounds. Price was amazingly low for the sound you get.
