The manual that came with the CD should provide an answer to those questions. Need to experiment by moving up the camera.

I think this is one of the best products that I could have found for my needs: a scanner that can deal with books, particularly larger books when presented, and is portable. I had a handheld scanner before, the type you slide over the pages, but it never did a great job, so when it finally bellied up, this was a welcome find.

I was very excited to get my new scanner. I have multiple projects of turning rare or out-of-print books into electronic copies. I was quite disappointed to find that, although the device would take snapshots, it would never complete a scan. I emailed the company. To my amazement, after asking a couple of questions, they turned around a new product to me within 24 hours. I was blown away! My new scanner works fine and I am very enamored with the support I've received from the vendor. I'll definitely being going to their site first for any further needs!

This is a very wonderful product. A little cheaper is better. Although it may not be well known, it can be set to automatically delete the image of the real finger in the settings at the time of shooting. Therefore, it is not always necessary to use the yellow instrument that comes with this product. However, with that setting, the pink page could not be scanned correctly. The reason is that this machine cannot distinguish between a finger and a non-finger part because the page color is relatively close to the finger color.

Amazing wonderful technology for scanning books. I was able to scan two 300 plus books so fast and accurately. OCR too. I am a very pleased customer!!!! There is a bit of a learning curve software wise which is why I gave it a 4 star for ease of use. The instructions could be clearer but its not that big of a deal. Great technology!!!

I have done much research online and compared different products over and over to find the one that suits me well, which we can afford due to the limited budget. Finally, I decided to buy this one. And I am amazed by its performance. It comes with a button to trigger the scanner or set as automatically scan. All I have to do is just flip pages. The software is also powerful, the book pages can split easily. One thing I noticed is when I scan a glossy page, I have to turn off the top head light and use the additional light to avoid the reflection. In a word, this scanner can do things 2 times more expensive products do.

My son used this for his Eagle project. It was insane how much better (image quality), faster, and easier this was to use compared to a flat bed scanner. While not cheap, it is a good value. Without this, he simply wouldn't have been able to finish his project in a timely manner - it made that much difference in scanning speed. If you need to scan books or magazines, definitely recommend.

Update: I was somewhat disappointed about the zoom function. As it turns out, you don't really need it. By using some of the software functions, you can get the pages at the level you wish. The support was very good to help me get to this point. I looked at several products. Having used the product to scan several textbooks of various sizes, I have to say this brand is probably your best bet. They have several products of various price ranges. I bought the ET16 Plus because of the auto scan function. It actually work better than described. After you turn the page, if the scanner detects motion, it seems to delay until there is no motion for a few seconds. This is really great when you have two pages that are stuck. So, I love the product and would highly recommend it if you have lots of books to scan.

I purchased to scan old farm diaries of my great-grandparents, many of which are over 100 years old. I didn't want to damage the books. Scanner works as advertised and allowed me to share the lives of our great-grandparents lives (the farm diaries) with other family members. One line mentions the birth of their first grandson - my dad!

Have just had this scanner/doc camera a few days, but it's already been used several times. My daughter discovered a packet of letters written by her great-great-great grandfather in 1863. The paper size precluded use of my regular flatbed scanner, so I ordered this product. We are so pleased. The set up was very easy. The downloadable free software installed quickly and works well. The user instructions are clear and easy to follow. The little plastic things that allow you to hold down the edges of pages without your fingers showing are amazing! I also scanned some pages from an older book. They turned out well, too. Planning to leave it set up in the den because it's going to get a lot of use! Thank you for a great product.
